Welcome to the Baltimore Folk Music Society

The Baltimore Folk Music Society is a nonprofit, educational organization dedicated to preserving and promoting folk music, dance, and tradition. BFMS sponsors regular dances, concerts, family events, and related activities year-round. Members are eligible for discounts to Society events by showing their membership card.

BFMS is a member of the Country Dance & Song Society and shares reciprocity arrangements with the Folklore Society of Greater Washington, and the Annapolis Traditional Dance Society.

Please take the time to review the BFMS suggestions and policy on reducing risk of COVID-19.

BFMS Memberships have been updated to reflect the time we weren't having in-person events. if your membership had expired March 2020, it was extended until May 2022. If you renewed your BFMS in July 2020 for 3 years, the new expiration for that membership is September 2025. If you want to confirm your membership to see if you are a current member or when your membership expires, send an inquiry to membership@bfms.org

BFMS is now hosting in-person events! Initial plan includes biweekly contra and english dances and monthly 2nd Saturday dances. To protect those most at risk of infection from Covid-19 we are currently requiring effective mask wearing, proof of vaccination and online ticket purchasing (allows contact tracing) for many events. We intend to adjust as the situation changes. We look forward to seeing you in-person soon!

Please help support our Callers and Musicians

BFMS encourages our members to donate to musicians and callers who had their BFMS sponsored gigs cancelled due to coronavirus. We are no longer accepting donations through our website, but CDSS has established a website for donations to musicians and callers.
